Never is a good time
In almost 3 years of university the two excuses that I hear all the time are: “This is not for me, I’m just a first-year student, they wouldn’t give me a job” or “I will do that when I finish my degree, now I have no time”.
I’m not a normal guy, because in my generation (at least in Portugal or in my university) the normal for a student is hating university, don’t do anything besides study, go to parties to drink (and, if you are in an engineering university like me, playing video games), don’t risk and don’t do nothing out of your comfort zone.
I’m not either a super young entrepreneur that created a billion-dollar company in his garage. I’m just a ordinary guy that thinks that if I’m one of the youngest people in the room I’m doing it right instead of thinking that it is not for people my age, that if everybody has ideas to materialize in the future when it will be the right time, I’m trying it right now, I admit I must try more often but at least I’m starting.
I’ve also heard too many times my colleagues saying that they are too young for that, don’t have enough time right now or don’t have enough knowledge or courage to begin today but they will have all of that in the future. Why do you think that? If now that is the easiest time to do things you don’t do it, why do you think in the future you would do it, what’s the difference?
When I hear this I just think that you have to do something about it, starting today. You will never have the perfect conditions, it will never be the perfect timing and you never would be the perfect person you believe you have to be to achieve what you want to achieve. Just start with what you are and have today and take the maximum of it and what you don’t have, learn and/or earn it on the way.
Don’t look for age, knowledge, money, timing… bullshit, don’t look for problems that are only in your head, look for solutions because they only are in your head too.
